The Medisys Health Group reported a ransomware data breach affecting 60,000 of its clients.

The Medisys Health Group reported a ransomware data breach involving the personal information of about 60,000 of its clients.

The company, which describes itself as a provider of preventive health-care services, said Tuesday it retrieved the data by paying a ransom and went to say the risk of public disclosure of the information was low.

 

The breach impacted about five per cent of Medisys clients, according to the company, and affected data may have included names, contact information, provincial health numbers, and test results. Clients’ financial information and social insurance numbers were not affected.

Parent company to Mercy Health and St. Joe’s systems sends data breach letter to clients

Trinity Health, the parent company to Mercy Health and St. Joe’s health systems, began mailing letters this month to donors and certain patients about a vendor data breach.

The breach, through Blackbaud, happened between April 18 and May 16 and Trinity Health was notified July 16. It’s the same breach reported widely earlier this year that potentially affected numerous non-profits and organizations around the country, including John Ball Zoo and the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids.

Blackbaud provides Trinity Health’s donor database technology.

Information about credit cards, bank accounts and social security numbers was encrypted and not vulnerable, but other information may have been susceptible in some cases, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email, dates of birth and hospital identifiers.
