NEWMARKET — Lamprey Health Care is initiating a new free adult drive-through flu vaccine service at their Newmarket and Raymond centers.

“Getting your flu shot is always essential, but in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, this preventive measure is even more critical,” said Gregory White, Lamprey Health Care’s chief executive officer.

The CDC estimates that for the flu season of 2019-20; there were over 39 million flu illnesses, over 18 million flu medical visits, and over 410,000 flu-related hospitalizations. Health care organizations across the country are already facing challenging times with space, supplies, and adequate personnel due to the COVID-19 response. Holding down flu infections through immunization will assist with these efforts.

“We understand that people have busy lives and hectic schedules,” said Sue Durkin, chief of clinical services. “By delivering services in this way, we’re hoping to remove barriers for individuals to get their flu vaccines” Lamprey Health Care has set dates and times for the drive-up flu vaccinations starting next week and anticipates more to come.

Lamprey Health Care is also planning to provide additional free adult flu clinics at various community locations.

“We want to ensure the community can protect themselves against the flu,” added Carrie Chooljian, care manager. “We recognize many community members are struggling during this time, so we will also have one of our community health workers available on site to talk to individuals who may need assistance with other resources.”

The free adult drive-up flu vaccines are scheduled to start Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Raymond Center from 10 a.m. to noon.
