More of us are wearing a blend of athletic and leisure clothing — “athleisure” — all the time now. Instead of dressing for work and then heading to the gym, we’re hanging out all day in yoga pants, shorts and sweats. Call them pre-pajamas.
The coronavirus, shuttered businesses and schools, and amped-up online shopping have moved us perpetually into casual athletic duds, according to researchers.
The NPD Group, which tracks sales data from stores and e-commerce sites, estimates that active clothing represents 28% of the total apparel dollars spent in the 12 months ending May 2020.
Eleven by Venus Williams takes activewear to a stylish new level. The tennis great’s Wonder Woman Collection has gold stars on black catsuits ($130), hoodies ($115), leggings ($99) and sports bras ($79).
Epoque Evolution’s Orion Legging II ($118) is another good example of upscale athleisure wear: It’s sharp looking with front ankle slits. It’s designed to shape and lift. It’s made of soft, sustainable, durable fabrics that dry quickly and wick away sweat. Take 10% off your first order. Buy two organic cotton tops, any color and style, at a 15% discount (20% off for three).
Under Armour just launched the Women’s UA Meridian + Moisture Infused Collection. The soft fabric has moisturizing microspheres to replaced the need for lotion. Long sleeve shirts are around $90 and leggings are $100. There is free shipping on orders of $60 or more.
And instead of tailored suits and leather shoes, this summer’s highly anticipated Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale had an expanded selection of loungewear, activewear and cozy items designed for customers committing to the stay-at-home lifestyle.
